“Super Cool Ski Instructor” is an advice image meme series featuring a picture of Thumper, the ski instructor from the animated sitcom South Park. The memes are accompanied by captions advising against risky or impetuous behaviors followed by the warning “you’re gonna have a bad time.” This meme is applied to the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which is a story about an old sailor (the Mariner) at a wedding, telling a guest about a disastrous journey he took. In his story, the Mariner speaks about an albatross that shows up to steer his ship through thick fog and also to provide good winds, but then the Mariner decides to shoot it. Oops. As the story goes, after shooting the albatross the Mariner then has a very bad time, indeed.
